The Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) revealed yesterday that it sorted out the controversy surrounding this season’s All Island Inter-club Singles Tournament. The Tournament Referee on Dec. 2 disqualified one of the Division-IV participating clubs, the SLTA Playing Section, from the event citing the club violated a tournament rule.
SLTA Playing Section was alleged to have featured in this season’s Division-IV two players who have earlier featured in last year’s victorious Division-III of the same tournament. Referee K. Subramaniam has pointed out that by doing so the club has violated a tournament rule stipulated earlier by the SLTA Tournament & Matches Committee.
But an SLTA Interim Committee official yesterday said the particular tournament rule regarding the aforesaid situation was unclear and therefore SLTA Playing Section (Div-IV team) was allowed to continue to take part in the tournament this season.
