The police have launched a special probe with a view to seizing the assets of the absconding con man Sakvithi Ranasinghe, who ran a private finance company and cheated his depositors of billions of rupees.

The police have ascertained particulars about some of his properties, sources said. The CID took into custody 29 vehicles including 27 motorcycles the suspect had purchased.

Interpol assistance has been sought to apprehend Sakvithi, who is reported to have fled the country with his family.
