Troops recover improvised high speed attack craft in captured Sea Tiger base

Troops of the 59 Division yesterday recovered an improvised High Speed attack craft of the LTTE with three 500hp outboard motors, hidden in a thicket in Chenmalai in Alampil, the strategic sea tiger base which area was captured by the troops less than a fortnight ago.

Military sources said that the boat had been designed in a such a manner that the front of the craft been constructed to store a large quantity of explosives and would have been planned to be used as a suicide craft.

Troops also detected a radar centre used by the LTTE in the coast which was hidden in a location disguised as a fishing wadiya.

It consists an underground bunker made of Palmyrah logs and covered with sand bags and troops recovered wires connected to the radar leading to the bunker.

Earlier troops recovered over 100 boats used by the sea tigers hidden in a coconut grove under thick canopy formed by the branches of the trees. The engines of the boats had been detached to facilitate easy transportation.
