The Strong SLTA Playing Section ‘A’ were through to this year’s Division- I final of the All Island Inter-club Singles Tennis Tournament, conducted by the Sri Lanka Tennis Association, when they beat SSC ‘Blue’ last week.

There were only three teams featuring in this top most division of Inter-club Singles, one of the two major all island tennis tournaments of the year. All these teams were represented by many former as well as present national players of Sri Lanka.

SLTA Playing Section, which had in its ranks players of the caliber of Harshana Godamanna, the only ATP professional player of Sri Lanka at present, beat SSC ‘Blue’ 2-1 last weekend.

They had earlier defeated SSC Red, which had about three former Davis Cup players, namely Jayendra Wijeysekera, Asiri Iddamalgoda and Dinusha Wijesuriya, with an identical score.

The rivals of the SLTA Playing Section in the Division’s final will be decided this weekend when the SSC ‘Blue’ meet SSC ‘Red.’

All Island Singles Tournament has a format where each tie between two clubs containing two singles rubbers and one doubles. The Referee of the Tournament is K. Subramaniam.
