JKH, Ceylinco & CommBank most traded
Market closes the week fla
but turnover up to Rs. 103 mn

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the week with the All Share Price Index gaining a fraction of a point while the Milanka lost 3.56 points with turnover rising to Rs.103.3 million from the previous day’s Rs.81.4 million, the CSE said in a trade summary.

While domestic purchases stood at Rs.28.2 million, up from Rs.9.9 million the previous day, domestic sales at Rs.73.1 million was up from Rs.11.8 million on Thursday.

Foreign purchases of Rs.75.1 million outpaced foreign sales of Rs.30.1 million, CSE said.

"The situation was a little better with some quantities being shown," a broker said.

Among the stocks that contributed to trade volumes yesterday were JKH with over 0.5 million shares done between Rs.54.75 and Rs.55 closing flat at Rs.55 generating Rs.28.1 million turnover and Ceylinco Insurance with 0.1 million shares done at Rs.185 at which price it closed, down 50 cents from its previous close contributing Rs.18.5 million to turnover.

Commercial Bank, also closed flat at Rs.68.75 on over 0.2 million shares done between Rs.68.50 and Rs.68.75. The stock contributed Rs.15.5 million to turnover while Distilleries, up 75 cents to close at Rs.52 on over 0.2 million shares traded, gained 75 cents at close and generated Rs.11.8 million to turnover.

The NDB Bank too showed some volume with slightly over 0.1 million shares done between Rs.87 and Rs.90 gaining 50 cents to close at Rs.87 and contributing Rs.9.4 million to the day’s turnover.

CSE announced that dealings in Ferntea have been suspended from yesterday following a winding up order served on the company’s liquidators on Thursday by the District Court of Colombo.

The Exchange also announced a special holiday on December 26, the day after Christmas.
