Suspicious bags found in car near Lankan embassy

December 18: Abu Dhabi: Police cordoned off a road leading to the Sri Lankan embassy yesterday after an owner of a vehicle reported he had found bags in his car which did not belong to him.

The vehicle was parked outside the embassy in Madinat Zayed in the downtown area and was checked by police dogs and explosive experts, police sources said.

The road was blocked for about two hours.

A police source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told Gulf News:

"The owner of the vehicle found two bags which did not belong to him in the pick up and he reported it to police."

After investigations it turned out that the two bags contained clothes and was put in the vehicle by mistake.

Employees of the embassy were told not to leave the building until the investigations were completed. (Gulf News)
