To celebrate the success of the magazine and to ask all those who have
contributed to the achievement, Prithiva Dharamadasa the Editor and owner
of the said publication invited the many fashion and life style women and
several men to high tea at the Grand Ballroom of the Colombo Hilton. Many
differing shows from an American auction in aid of the Infant Heart
Surgery project, to mini collections from several designers among whom was
Lou Ching Wong, Ruchira of Rebel, Dharshi Keerthisinghe, Poornima of
Inspiration, Sonali White of the Haddai Label, and Andre Estefan, besides
song and dance items all of which stretched the evening out into nearly
three hours.
Fashion was much in evidence with the regular well dressed set making winners in the states for flash bulbs to pop. Prithiva wore a dress in a lovely shade of blue which was soft and feminine, with many others in western styles, among them Sharika Weeraratne in a bare shouldered white top dazzling with sequins, she wore with white pants. The bare shouldered black top Sangeetha Weeraratne wore was glamour plus, worked at the top in bands of sequins in silver and black, and in keeping with the hostesses request for a theme of glamour. Her sparkling white stone eardrops was in the form of a star. The long sleeveless top Ramani Fernando wore was dramatically embroidered at the neckline in an encrustation of beads, stones and sequins in Nefertiti style. Bare shoulders spell glamour and in an another dress with this feature was Gowrie de Silva. The dress was in a striking print in black and white with a scattered design of roses in pinks and red.
The sarees though were not to be eclipsed, and among the most beautiful was the saree Malinee Wijeratne wore. In a print in the combination of mediteranean blue with green and traces of white, she wore with a necklace of many strands of jade beads. White combined with a deep wine in an unusual saree Nela de Zoysa wore. On the gossamer white fabric a ruched ribbon swirled in white with the border on a grape background. Her blouse was in the grape and her jewellery in pearls. A fusion of reds and grey with yellow was Rohini Cooray’s choice to match three strands of grey and white pearls, with a central row of red stones to make a string necklace. The Kandyan saree Swarna Ameratunge wore was in a palm leaf print in sapphire blue and aquamarine she wore with an aquamarine bead necklace. Ilica Karunaratne had her green saree worked at the shoulder. The compere cum auctioneer was Ashok Ferry in red and white, he said was in the spirit of the Christmas season.
