Reduce petrol prices immediately, says Somawansa

JVP leader Somawansa Amerasinghe yesterday blamed the Government for the present fuel crisis and called for the immediate reduction of petrol prices.

"The government should not create more problems it cannot resolve". He said.

"These problems crop up as there is no balance of power within institutions as the Executive, Judiciary and the Legislature".

"We supported the UPFA to defeat the UNP, but now there is a SLFP+UNP Government carrying out the same UNP policies", he complained.

"How can the UPFA go before the people to ask for their vote when the people have no faith in a Government, which cannot even conduct a simple O/L exam properly?", he asked.

"Everything is in disarray, there is a crisis and the Government is falling".

The only way out for a Government which allowed at least 10% of the GDB to be robbed or wasted in 2007 without an inquiry or looking into where the money had gone, is to stop such robberies and take steps in the right direction, he said.

What is the use of wasting another 6000 million on Mihin Air when it has already wasted 3000 million? The Government must stop that wastage immediately and make use of that money for the welfare of the people, he suggested.
