Royal Vishaka top Grade 5 schols list

The Education Ministry yesterday released the marks to select students to popular schools under the Grade 5 scholarship examination 2008. Royal College, Colombo tops the boys school list. The marks to admit students to the Royal College are 157. The top girls schools is Visakha Viyalaya, Colombo with the marks of 156. Taxila MMV Horana tops the mixed schools with 138 marks. The second places went Kandy schools, Dharmaraja College (152) and Mahamaya Balika (152).

The examination was held in August and about 280,000 students competed. Of them 32,000 had qualified. The Grade 5 scholarship exam is held to select students for popular schools with an allowance. About 15,000 students qualified to receive allowances and 17,000 for selection to popular schools.

According the list issued yesterday (23) the first ten schools according to the marks to admit students are: Royal College, Colombo – 157, Dharmaraja College Kandy - 152

, Ananda College, Colombo – 149, Maliyadeva Boys College, Kurunegala – 148, Kingswood College, Kandy – 147, Nalanda College, Colombo – 144, Richmond College, Galle – 143, Rahula College, Matara – 143, St. Annes M.V Kurunegala – 143, D.S.Senanayaka College, Colombo - 142

Top ten girl schools are: Vishaka Vidyalaya Colombo.- 156, Mahamaya B.M.V. Kandy – 152, Devi Balika, Colombo – 150,

Maliyadeva Balika, Kurunegala – 149, Sirimavo Bandaranaike Balika, Colombo – 147, Holy Family Balika M.V, Kurunegala – 145, Southland Balika, Galle – 144, Anula Balika, Nugegoda – 142, Rathnawali Balika M.V, Gampaha – 142, Girls High School, Kandy – 142.
