New CEB chairman wins workers’ hearts

Newly appointed Ceylon Electricity Board Chairman K Edirisinghe yesterday instructed the CEB management to release the additional Rs. 5,000 given along with the bonus to the CEB employees.

The Ceylon Electricity Board’s United Trade Union Front on Monday halted their picketing campaign following the new Chairman’s assurance that the additional Rs 5,000 would be paid along with the bonus as in the past.

On Monday more than 1,000 workers from the CEB headquarters in Colombo and outstations participated in a protest campaign after working up to 11.00 a.m. following an earlier decision taken by the CEB that they would be paid only a month’s salary as bonus and not the additional Rs 5,000

United Trade Union Front Steering Committee Member and LVSS Convener H. A. Ranjan Jayalal told The Island that they were happy about the Chairman’s positive approach.
