Mihin Lanka re-launch on Jan. 1

Mihin Lanka yesterday announced the recommencement of operations with effect from January 1, 2009.

Mihin Lanka will operate 6 frequencies to Dubai (daily, except on Saturdays), with departure at 1800 hours from Colombo. The budget airline said it is on target to commence scheduled operations to Indian cities within the month of January 2009.

In keeping with the aspirations enshrined in ‘Mahinda Chinthanaya’, Mihin Lanka was founded to provide ‘low cost’ air transportation to the traveling public. This gave an opportunity for a wider segment of society to travel aborad by air, at affordable prices, the airline said in a statement.

Mihin Lanka recently acquired a new, 186 seater aircraft Boeing 737-800 type (2008 vintage) of ultra modern technology, fitted with CFM56-7B26 engines. To facilitate local exporters and manufacturers/trade, this aircraft would provide approximately three tons of cargo capacity, it said.

"To assist Buddhist pilgrims, plans have been finalised to operate weekly flights to Bodhgaya, effective February 2009."
