Commending the army for spearheading a magnificent battle-field victory over the LTTE at Kilinochchi, the JVP yesterday emphasised the importance of neutralising the threat posed by the separatist lobby on the political front.
JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva urged the government to tackle the political threat as the security forces met the LTTE military challenge head-on.
Addressing a press conference in Colombo, he expressed confidence in the army’s commitment to finish off Tigers in the near future but regretted the ongoing discussion on devolution of power.
The JVP said that the need was to ensure the speedy restoration of democracy in the northern region and take tangible steps to help war weary population. The Marxist party said that liberation of Kilinochchi-Paranthan stretch of the A9 was a defeat for those who propagated the lie that the LTTE couldn’t be defeated.
The JVP also reminded that it forced the Rajapaksa administration to go on the offensive after it had successfully moved the Supreme Court against the merger of the Eastern Province with the North. (SF)
