Karuna can be investigated only if a complaint is made- Rambukwella

Foreign Employment Minister and Defence Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella says  that Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna can be investigated on allegations of child conscription and human rights violations only if there is a complaint.

Questioned at a news conference held at the Presidential Secretariat on Friday, as to why a government that has launched a massive hunt for LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran, was ignoring the wrongs done by his former "commander", Rambukwella said that investigations can be initiated only on the basis of a complaint."We will investigate any complaint that  is lodged."

Prabhakaran, he observed has already been convicted by the Sri Lankan High Court of the charges preferred against him and has been sentenced to 200 years in jail.

Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and Media Minister Yapa asked what the charges against Muralitharan were.

When pointed out that Muralitharan was Prabhakaran’s trusted lieutenant at one stage and was therefore also culpable for the crimes committed by the LTTE leader, both ministers said that as far a they knew, there are no such charges pending.
