Police probing the brutal killing of Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunga have drawn a blank, a senior police official said yesterday.
"We have still not been able to ascertain the number of motor bikes used by the assassins", SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said.
There are conflicting accounts, he said. "Eye witnesses are unable to recall whether there were one, two, three or four bikes used in the attack".
As the road was congested at that time, people who witnessed the shooting cannot give a clear picture, SSP Gunasekera said. "As a result, accounts of the number (of bikes) vary from one to four".
Wickrematunga was shot dead while on his work at Attidiya Road last Thursday morning.
His funeral will take place on Monday. (FRS)
