Zoo’s new Sea Lion on show from today

The Dehiwela Zoo’s latest addition, a Sea lion named Karl, a gift from the German Zoo, will go on public display from today.

Curator of The Zoo’s Min Medura – a section devoted to the aquatic species- K. C. Kithsiri told The Island yesterday they received the 18-month old cub on October 2, last year.

"We are very happy that the cub, a male, was a quick learner and in less than three months he learnt all we taught him. Thus, the training was an easy process."

He said that Karl’s presence in the Zoo would lead to many more aquatic species being brought down.

The other sea lion, a male named Sakku, is six years old.
