Thomians bundled out for 18 as
Arampath guides Holy Cross to victory

St. Thomas’ College, Matara were bundled out for the lowest total in an Innings in the Inter School Under-19 tournament this season as left arm paceman Janaka Arampath bagged 13 wickets and helped Holy Cross College, Kalutara, record a thumping 69 run victory in a low scoring match played at Uyanwatte on Monday.

After being bowled out for 68 runs, the left arm and right arm pace combination of Janaka Arampath (5/06) and Romesh Rookantha (4/07) shared nine wickets to bundle out the Thomians for 18 runs, a school source said yesterday.

In their second innings, the Thominans had lost six wickets for 17 runs to end a dramatic first day where 36 wickets had fallen for just 175 runs. On the second day the Thomians had folded up for 53 runs in the face of a fiery spell from Arampth who took eight second innings wickets for 19 runs to earn a match bag of 13 wickets, sources said.

Left arm paceman Arampath’s impressive first innings bowling figures read as five overs, one maiden, six runs for five wickets, while his second innings figures were nine overs, two maidens, nineteen runs for eight wickets.

Incidentally, it was Holy Cross College’s fourth outright victory of the season.

Indeewara double helps St. John’s

Skipper and all rounder Dimuth Indeewara top scored with 121 runs and impressed with a seven wicket haul as St. John’s College, Nugegoda, scored a first innings victory over St. Anthony’s College, Wattala, in their Inter School Under-19 match which ended at Wattala on Tuesday.
