Ground operation against LTTE now nearing climax

With the army entering Visvamadu town east of A9 road yesterday morning, the largest ever ground offensive directed against the LTTE is rapidly reaching its zenith.
The army said that fighting was continuing in the area with 58 Division troops gradually evicting the enemy from their strong points. A senior official said that multi-pronged offensive involving armour and artillery was now threatening to overwhelm LTTE units holding a section of the Paranthan-Mullaitivu A 35, the only major road not fully under army control.
