Sri Lankan Airlines held a media conference followed by cocktails at the Crystal Room of the Taj Samudra Hotel to launch and introduce the FlySmiles partners. To keep to the promise to be the Frequent Flyer Programme that Rewards and Delights, they joined with no less than ten major companies worldwide and signed agreements with Malaysia Airlines, Etihad Airways, Dialog Telecom, American Express, Standard Chartered, Travelling Connect, Hertz, Taj Hotels and Palaces, Siddhalepa, and Deccen Aviation (Lanka). SriLankan Airlines CEO Manoj Gunawardena said "SriLankan Airlines welcome our new partners to the world of FlySmiles. The FlySmiles partners also gave brief introductions, and with the formalities over lead to fraternising with the visitors from several parts of the world, among whom were Brigitte Tan from Hertz and Richard Wolfe of Travelling Connect from the Netherlands.

The saree was much in evidence among the members of the airline staff and Nirmali Paldano wore a sand toned saree with a double border, the border on the outside in a black and sand print, with the inner narrower border in a turquoise. Sharada Iyer from Etihad Airways had her pink saree bordered in gold and ivory, she wore with a gold blouse while Desiree Premachandra contrasted her blue silk saree bordered in coral and gold, with a blouse in the coral and a necklace of agate beads with a disc pendent at the base. Theruni Ratanatunge had her gold hued saree patterned in dots in red and aquamarine in a Satya Paulish fashion.
