The Oak Room of the Cinnamon Grand Hotel was tastefully decorated with the
head table the piece de resistance when Venushi the daughter of Kamani and
the late Upananda Pathirana was married to Nishantha, the son of Indrani
and Pragathgami Hettiarachchi. The service of blessing took place at the
St. Lukes Church, Borella, while the poruwa ceremony and reception was
held at the hotel. The bride keeping to the theme of simplicity wore a
saree with a border worked in silver sequins, beads and stones. The entire
blouse was worked, and the saree was draped to reveal this. Her veil
flowed at the back from a cluster of flowers and she carried a cascade of
orchids for a bouquet. Her jewellery was in diamonds.
The trio of bridesmaids wore skirts and tops in gold silk over which was saffron toga like drapes. The blouses were in bustier style and they carried tight posies of orange and yellow flowers.
The mother of the bride wore a blue saree with two large elongated pasileys across the fall, while sister Shayani wore a saree in red with a border of dots. Dots are ‘in’, if the many sarees with dots is any indication to go by. Ruvini Jayasinghe wore a combination of black and white, with dots and border in gold. Biege dots on black made the first half of the saree Ayanthi wore, which had a fall in see through in a fine gold weave. Nadira Indratissa’s cerise toned saree was dotted in turquoise, purple and pale gold and Maria Sathasivam had her white saree patterned in a black border with colour only in the pallu. Ravindra wore a shot tissue saree and Ramani a black worked in turquoise.
