Vajira
Jayasinghe and her son Shehan from New Malden took part in the Portsmouth
BUPA Great South Run late last year to raise more than £4250.00 for the
Rahula Trust.
In a wet and blustery Portsmouth, this event was held with nearly 12,000 runners descending on this south coast city. Amongst them was the mother and son combination of Vajira and Shehan, who were running in aid of The Rahula Trust. After many months of training and preparation, both competitors managed to negotiate the 10 mile course in an extremely respectable time.
Vajira and Shehan thanked their family, friends and everyone who supported them along the way. Many donations were received which saw a total of £4250 raised to provide education to disadvantaged children in Sri Lanka, Nepal and Kenya.
The two Sri Lankans presented a cheque for £4250 to Venerable Thawalama Bandula Thero, the Secretary of the Rahula Trust, recently.
The prelate said the Rahula Trust is grateful to the Jayasinghe family for their wonderful generosity. He said that so far the Rahula Trust had sponsored over 430 students in Sri Lanka.
"We would also like to help schools in Sri Lanka to set up libraries".
