Landslide victims will be resettled soon – President
KANDY - President Mahinda Rajapaksa issued instructions to Livestock Development Minister C. B. Ratnayake that action be taken to resettle the Walapone landslide victims within three months.
The villagers who lost their homes should not be allowed to remain in tents any longer. They should be resettled in suitable lands, let lands belong to anyone. There is no question of the ownership of the land, President Rajapaksa told the Minister.
The landslides of Walapone occured at least two years ago. Since then over one hundred families have been living in tents.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressing the Central Provincial Council election propaganda meeting at Poramadulla, hanguranketha said that he saw for himself that the landslide victims who lost their abodes and properties were in occupation of the tents.
"No matter to whom the lands belong. See that the landslide victims living in tents are given alternative living quarters", he said.
Minister C. B. Ratnayake represents Nuwara Eliya district and Walapone comes with that district.
