Fishermen can soon fish in any port of country - Felix

Fishing without fear would become a reality soon so that fishermen could go to sea for fishing. Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister Felix Perera said at a Wayamba provincial council election rally held at Kurunegala. The Fisheries sector should be proud of the liberation of the North and East as a large number of fisheries resources could be exploited in these provinces. The Government was of the view that the Fisheries sector would be able to become the main revenue earner in Sri Lanka.

The Chilaw Fisheries harbour was being constructed at a cost Rs. 200 million. The Government, in a matter of months, would assure fishermen from any part of the country would be able to fish in Eastern and Northern coasts.

Minister Perera added that the Government had taken action to rehabilitate the war and tsunami-devastated fisheries harbours and during the past few years, several harbours and ferries had been rehabilitated. Electricity, water, infrastructure facilities, provision of fishing gear for fishermen had been prioritized.
