A schoolboy carrying the trunk of an alistonia tree, felled in his dancing teacher’s garden with a few other students, died when the trunk fell on his head in Totagamuwa, Hikkaduwa.

According to police, the teacher who was conducting private classes at his residence had sought the assistance of the students to remove the log after the tree had been felled.

The deceased was D. Prasad Jeewantha (16), of Pereliya/Jinaratana Vidyalaya and a native of Malwennagama.

The teacher was taken in to custody by Meetiyagoda police and the Magistrate ordered him to be remanded after he was produced in Court.
