The Graduate Employees’ Union has vehemently condemned last week’s police assault on Kelaniya University students.

"President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s government, under the guise of the victories in both North and East, has curtailed the democratic rights of the people. Arresting of university lecturers was done openly to suppress the student movement", the Union General Secretary Chandana Suriyarachchi said in a statement.

"The assault on the media culminated with the slaying of an Editor".
