IT links SL with S. Korea

A new Digital Information Access Centre at the Institute of Business Management in Colombo was declared open by Vocational and Technical Training Minister Piyasena Gamage, Media and Investment Promotion Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa and Korean Public Administration and Defence Minister Kim Yung Ho in Colombo recently, the Vocational and Technical Training Ministry said.

Vocational and Technical Training Minister Piyasena Gamage told The Island Financial Review that the Korean Government had given Rs.100 million to construct the Digital Information Access Centre which could be utilized to disseminate information on new vistas around the globe.

He said that Korea had been instrumental in establishing a number of important information technology centres in Sri Lanka and since 1977 the bi-lateral relations between the two countries had made great strides. Korea had won international accolades in information technology and the Digital Information Access Centre established in Sri Lanka was the first centre South Asia.

Minister Gamage added that the new Information Access Centre would be of immense value to the information technology sector in Sri Lanka as its state-of-the-art technology could gather, edit and disseminate information on internal issues and information technology.
