The Navy destroyed two LTTE boats in the Northern seas 10 nautical miles north east of Mullaitivu around 06 am yesterday.
The Navy’s Fast Attack Craft deployed in the inner barrier of surveillance and patrolling in the North- eastern seas, intercepted two low profile LTTE boats launched from Palamaththalan, Mullaitivu and destroyed them with heavy gun fire.
Subsequently, two LTTE bodies were recovered and six carders were believed killed, Navy sources said.
The Navy maintains continuous naval surveillance and patrolling in the North-eastern seas to prevent the beleaguered Tigers from escaping. Naval fortifications have been tightened with four defence barriers consisting of Fast Attack Craft (FACs), Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs), Gun Boats, the Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS) and the Special Boat Squadron (SBS) to thwart any attempt by the LTTE to escape by sea and to prevent the unloading of warlike materials on the North-eastern coast, Navy sources added.
