Chance of a lifetime to change the ‘bahubootha’ constitution!
As an independent observer, who belongs to no political party or group, I feel the time has come at last to hold snap general elections soon, to obtain the necessary two-thirds majority to change J.R’s ‘bahubootha’ constitution for the following reasons:
1. Even Ranil has run short of ammunition and he is now waving the lion flag, by praising the military victory of the army, navy and air force, something he was denying all this time, calling ‘Alimankada’ or Elephant Pass a Pamankada, Kilinochchiya a Medawachchiya, Thoppigala a patch of useless jungle! In fact, by reading a written statement to the press and electronic media praising the victory of the armed forces, Ranil has shown us his bankruptcy in finding words to give the devil his due! Every time Ranil has spoken without a script he has cut very pathetic figure ever since he became the Leader of the Opposition. No wonder most of the UNPers have discarded him though for some mysterious reason Karu J. preferred to come back like the prodigal son to his political father.
2. The JVP is at its lowest in popularity because it has no orator like Wimal W. anymore and Somawansa A. is suited more to be a member of the JHU than a revolutionary party. Tilvin S. is no speaker at all.
3. The JHU will never again contest with the ‘hakgediya’ or conch shell due ti its unpopularity.
4. No self-respecting woman will work for or vote for a party that had given birth to a constitution that made it virtually impossible for a woman to contest a seat in parliament.
This constitution must be changed so that I will know who my MP is and it is only then that an MP will do his best to please the electorate.
As soon as the last Tiger fortress has been captured we must dissolve parliament and hold general elections. Since Sri Lankans’ memory is short, sooner the better!
