Mrs. Joyce Eleanor Weerasekara, wife of the former member of Parliament for Dehiowita. Mr. Dhanapala Weerasekara passed away on Sunday the 08th. Mrs. Joyce Weerasekara played an active role in many social and religious activities conducted by various organisations in the Dehiowita electorate. She also played a pioneering role in her husband’s political activities participating in various socio community development work conducted by Mr. Dhanapala Weerasekara.

Mrs. Joyce Weerasekara was the mother of three daughters Ramani, Ruvani and Rukmalee and the mother - in - law of Mr. Upali Liyanage, Mr. Mangala Ratnayaka and Mr. Philip Nowalk. Mr. Upali Liyanage the present Chairman of the Development Lotteries Board was the former Chairman of the National Lotteries Board. Mrs. Joyce Weerasekara was the grand mother of Malee, Menaka, Niluka, Rumesh, Asitha and Dileepa.

The remains of Mrs. Weerasekara in now lying at the residence of Mr. Upali Liyanage at No. 15, Weerasekara Mawatha, Thalawathugoda. Her funeral will take place on Wednesday the 11th February at the General Cemetery Thalawathugoda at 6.00 p.m.
