Dr. J. J. wants safe return for IDPs
UNP MP for Gampaha District, Dr. Jayalath Jayawardana urged the government to seek UN assistance in bringing civilians trapped in uncleared areas to the cleared areas of Vanni. "It is not humanly possible or practical to expect those trapped in uncleared parts of Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu to walk almost 40 to 50 km when there may be pregnant and nursing mothers, disabled and elderly people amongst them", he said.
Dr. Jayawardana said yesterday (10), that the government under the UN flag could help these people to seek protection in cleared parts. It’s not possible to walk along a road which may be ridden with land mines. "I am requesting the government to consider the human factors as a human rights activist," Jayawardana said.
"I don’t have a hidden agenda in making this plea on behalf of the thousands who are trapped in these areas," he said condemning the LTTE for using innocent civilians as human shields.
If the government claims that it cares for these innocent Tamil people, then it should do something about helping them out in their time of need.
