Cricket encounter in memory of S. Illangaratnam
The Lanka Cavaliers will fondly remember the late S. Illangaratnam, the gentleman cricketer and stalwart of Moratuwa and Bloomfield, who later played for them, at the Inaugural 30-overs cricket encounter against the Bank of Ceylon Veterans (over 40), today, at Bloomfield C&AC grounds Reid Avenue, commencing 10.00 am.
The match will be played for the S. Illangaratnam Memorial Challenge Trophy, which is donated by the former President of Lanka Cavaliers, former Sri Lanka captain, Bandula Warnapura, now in India.
The only special award on offer, the Man-of-the-Match trophy is donated by Lanka Cavaliers founder member, Basil Perera.
Illange passed away on July 16, 2007 at the age of 59 and was still in service at the Bank of Ceylon, counting over 45 years of service at the time of his death.
