The UNP propaganda office at Nawalapitiya was attacked by
a group of supporters allegedly led by a deputy minister yesterday evening
as polling closed in the Central and North Western (Wayamba) Provincial
Councils poll, which was described as largely free, fair and peaceful, by
police and election officials.
The overall voter turnout in the two provinces was placed
at around 60% to 65%.

Casualties in the recent LTTE suicide bomb blast at
Dharmapuram, which killed about 20 people including soldiers would have
been far less if the security personnel engaged in searching and
documenting refugees were not congregated but spread within the area of
the incident, a Coroner’s inquest was told by an eyewitness last week.
