The security forces, on entering Puthukudiiruppu North on Thursday, found the partially burnt remnants of two aircraft believed to have been in the process of being built.
One had been a small aircraft while the other was an unmanned aircraft (UAV). It is believed that foreign experts had trained Tiger cadres on assembling these aircraft.
Troops also found several other materials strewn in the vicinity but burnt beyond recognition. The Forces believe the two Czech built light aircraft that belonged to the LTTE, too, may have been burnt and destroyed.
The LTTE was perturbed by the sudden arrival of security forces and did not have time to remove their belongings to safer areas and therefore destroyed several items by burning them.
Troops also discovered several arms and stocks of ammunition, claymore bombs and anti-personnel mine from the area. Security sources said once the civilians escape from the LTTE controlled areas troops will launch a powerful attack and finish off the war.
