Eight athletes for 10th Asian Cross Country C’ship

The Athletic Association of Sri Lanka has chosen the winners of the National Cross Country Championship to represent the country at the 10 Asian Cross Country Championships which will be held in Bahrain.

The AA has selected those who finished among the first four in both the men’s and women’s categories to take part in the Asian Cross Country Championship.

Reigning South Asian Games Marathon Gold medalist Ajith Bandara won the cross country championship held early this month.

Bandara clocked 38.28 minutes to finish the 12 kilometer race. G. Ravindra Saman Kumara, R. M. Pushpakumara and R. M. Samantha Pushpakumara who came in second, third and fourth race are the other athletes included in the men’s team.

The women’s team includes D. A. Shanika Samanmalee, Anuradhi Bogahawatte, D. A. Inoka and W. K. L. A. Nimali.

Samanmalee won the women’s cross country championship while the other three athletes finished behind her. Samanmalee clocked 29.58 minutes to complete the 8 kilometer race.

The tenth Asian Cross Country Championship will be held in Bahrain on March 1.
