Motor racing enthusiast Buddhika Rambukwella’s bid to set a new Guinness World Record by driving a car using his feet from Kandy to Colombo was prevented by police yesterday on the advice of the Attorney General.
When Rambukwella arrived in front of the Sri Dalada Maligawa-Queen’s Hotel Junction with his supporters, police told him that he cannot be permitted to accomplish his feat.
A police team led by Kandy SSP Jayantha Gammanpila on the directions of DIG Pujitha Jayasundara told the motor racing enthusiast that the Attorney General had directed that the police should not allow the vehicle to be driven using the feet as it violated the Motor Traffic Act.
Police said that the AG had warned that any officer responsible for permitting this violation of the law would be dealt with.
Rambukwella was disappointed no doubt, but withdrew as advised by the police. He said he came to Kandy to set the world record as the IGP had granted permission some months ago.
He said he will realize his dream of setting this new record by accomplishing his mission on some other occasion by not using a public highway.
He bid farewell to the crowd of enthusiasts present to witness the event.
Chief Minister CPC Sarath Ekanayake was also present to witness the event.
