The Sri Lanka Army yesterday re-opened the Jaffna – Kandy
A9 highway to the peninsular after 27 years.
Security Forces Commander Jaffna, Major General Mendaka
Samarasinghe, ceremonially opened the highway at Elephant Pass. Commander
of 55 division of the SL Army, Brigadier Prasanna Silva and several other
officers attended the ceremony.

Water levels receding fast
Water levels at the major reservoirs are dropping at an
alarming rate and by yesterday noon the capacity was 27 per cent,
according to senior sources of the Ceylon Electricity Board.
SC orders PM, Ranil to send
