Jetwing St. Andrew’s, Nuwara Eliya organized a J.E.E.P walk in Nuwara Eliya in collaboration with some schools and institutions in the area.
Jetwing Eternal Earth Project (J.E.E.P), is a JETWING initiative taken as a responsible corporate citizen to contribute towards minimizing "GLOBAL WARMING" and its effects for the benefit of mankind.
Jetwing is a leading tourism company with hotels and a travel section that has contributed to the tourism industry for 35 years and a strong proponent of "Responsible Tourism".
The objectives of this initiative is to create awareness amongst the Nuwara Eliya community regarding Global Warming and related environmental issues and effects and to focus and involve to protect nature and reduce global warming effects.
Apart from the J.E.E.P walk, the team at Jetwing St Andrew’s also organized a tree planting programme to mark this project with the participation of school children. Around 50 tree plants were planted. A short presentation on "Global Warming" was conducted by Jetwing St Andrew’s Resident Naturalist Nadeera Weerasinghe who has been the architect of the J.E.E.P walk.
"This is an excellent programme where the whole community of Nuwara Eliya can get involved in saving our planet and reducing the effects of global warming. Unfortunately Nuwara Eliya is not immune to global warming where we experience at present with rather irregular climatic conditions and less rain. It is important to identify that global warming is an issue at present and we must take every possible steps to protect our environment" Weerasinghe noted.
The program was completed after the presentation on "Global Warming" and awarding of certificates of participation to all school children.
It was special to see the participation of differently abled students from MENCAFEP which probably would be the first time that such a participation has been openly encouraged among children of Sri Lanka. These students carried messages of environmental protection in the streets of Nuwara Eliya.
