CONCACAF President Jack Warner is calling on major soccer clubs in the world’s most successful leagues to be more mindful of a societal responsibility.

Warner, speaking as part of a panel discussion at the three-day Global Sports Forum in Barcelona on Thursday, challenged the major teams to be more active outside of the game.

‘Now I don’t begrudge anyone earning good money, and any private individual can do with his or her money as they see fit. No, I’m not complaining about that at all," the FIFA vice president said during his introductory remarks to the discussion: ‘Sport As Part Of The Society DNA: The Role Of Major Sports And Major Events.’

‘What I am calling for, though, is some more responsibility towards the wider society from more of our professional clubs around the world. And especially in the countries that have the best-developed and most commercial leagues. Some – a few, only, if I’m to be honest – clubs do a bit in this regard already, but everyone can do more – much more, in my opinion.’

The inaugural Global Sports Forum was a gathering of 1,500 individuals from across the sports community, organized by Euro RSCG Worldwide, the New York-based arm of the Paris marketing agency Havas Sports Group, with the intention to create dialogue between the sporting world and society at large.
