Let us eradicate in ourselves the causes of war!

Human nature, unlike animal nature, is stained with the blood of wars amongst each other, from the inception. Each war was supposed to be the last, but it was not.

The Indian Emperor Asoka gave up war and the people dreamt of living happily thereafter. The Great World War of 1914-1918 ended on Armistice Day (celebrated even now in November every year) and the people of the world dreamt of living happily thereafter, until the Second World War of 1939-1945.

But since 1945 we have had more wars than ever, in almost every part of the planet. This is human nature.

As long as man is given a psychological birth certificate as Hindu or Muslim, Arab or Jew, Sunni or Shia, Buddhist or Christian with all its implications, limitations, beliefs, superstitutions and stupid rituals that limit his thinking to a pattern set by priests and bishops, as long as man is separated from man psychologically there will be wars. History, both past and present, is proof.

Iran is perhaps the latest country to test nuclear missiles. Iraq was supposed to have had weapons of mass destruction and the US warlords sent troops to destroy them. There were no WMD but the killing of innocent people is still going on.

Obama, who won the US presidential elections based on the promise that he would soon withdraw the troops sent by the Bush administration, is procrastinating.

Wars do not begin in the minds of warlords. They begin in the minds of ordinary people, you and me, who are made to believe that one race is superior to another, one religion is superior to another. Human civilisation is the expression of the collective will. The will of the many has created the messy world we call humanity, where two humans are separated by caste or race or faith or nationality. As long as we have no unifying love for each other, there will be wars.

Don’t ask "what can I do?" and just keep quiet. Each one of us can do a lot to change this war mentality in man which is not biological but purely psychological. I believe I am a Sinhalese and you believe that you are a Tamil or Muslim or whatever. These divisions were not created by nature or God. When God created Adam he did not create a Hindu or Muslim or whatever. He created a complete human being, ‘in his own image.’ God is not a Christian or Buddhist or Hindu, Sinhala, Tamil, Indian or Russian. Adam was not conditioned by the creator to separate himself from another human being psychologically according to belief. The devil created beliefs and organisations to foster them. Hence we have churches, mosques or temples, each against the other in the heart of hearts. Religious harmony is a myth created by politicians. There can be no harmony, true harmony, as long as religions divide humans with their ecclesiastical dignitaries and vast organisations that are engaged in continuous propaganda.

Let us learn to unlearn all the beliefs that were handed down to us through the generations by monks, bishops, imams or rabbis. Let us learn to observe another human being without that space barrier called race, nationality or faith. Then there is no Sinhalese, Tamil, Hindu or Muslim. There will only be human beings! Try it the next time you meet somebody. Don’t have any image, a label or trademark that causes all the wars in this world. In that observation there is perception, extraordinary vitality. We have no vitality to look at humans as humans, because our minds are brainwashed by our sacred books and their hypnotising preachers who can lead an innocent human being to destination through wars by their ideals, formulas, concepts, all bringing about such constant conflicts. When you perceive this, you have seen truth, for seeing the false as the false is truth.

When we realise all this not just verbal, not theoretical, not intellectual or hypnotical, but feel with our whole being the absurdity of living under different psychological labels as Buddhists or Christians, Sinhalese or Tamil there is no conflict whatsoever! A man or woman who can live without the influence of religions or political organised thinking, without any belief imposed on us by society, such a man or women does not have to run to a meditation centre and repeat after professionals in robes or otherwise, because that perception alone is the highest meditation. Of what use is meditation if you are still labelled as a human being? Go to any such meditation centre and you will be told; "I am a Sinhala or Tamil or Hindu or Buddhist." Can a labelled mind meditate? Labels are the causes of war and let us eradicate in ourselves the causes of war. Only then will there be enduring peace!
