Increase in auto gas prices
I am most shocked and
disappointed as a customer of Auto Gas to note that from 1st March 2009
both ‘Shell’ & ‘Laugh’ gas companies have increased the price of auto gas
from Rs. 64.50 per litre to Rs. 80 without any prior or otherwise notice
to the consumers. I converted my brand new car to auto gas last year by
investing Rs. 85,000 for a latest 3G conversion system recommended by
‘Shell ‘when the price of petrol was escalating rapidly last year, not
only as a measure to cut costs but also as my contribution towards making
our world a better environmentally friendly place. Both suppliers claim
that this increase was a result of the additional taxation heaped upon
them by the Govt. last January. If so, doesn’t this measure run counter to
your Ministry’s avowed of promoting ‘green’ environment, which has
resulted in emission control tests for all motor vehicles. Something is
wrong somewhere and I appeal to you to probe this matter immediately and
educate the decision makers of the government on the need to encourage
auto gas users, not only to save our environment but also to save foreign
exchange.Mohan Mendis
