UN protects Madagascar opposition leader
ANTANANARIVO, Madagascar (AP) - The United Nations said Monday that Madagascar’s opposition leader has taken refuge in the French Embassy.

Opposition leader Andry Rajoelina, a former mayor of the capital city, is locked in a power struggle with President Marc Ravalomanana but went into hiding last week, saying he feared arrest.

A U.N. envoy in Madagascar, Tiebile Drame, had said earlier that the U.N. was giving Rajoelina diplomatic protection.
