Consolation win for Basnahira South

Chinthaka Perera, Amila Prasad and Malinga Bandara caused a sudden collapse in the Ruhuna 2nd innings with some impressive bowling to all out them for 177, following Ruhuna’s imposing 1st innings total of 450 all out, and thereafter Basnahira South batsmen successfully chased a victory target of 245, losing only six wickets, to record a consolation win in their final league match of this year’s Inter-Provincial cricket tournament ended at Colts CC grounds, Colombo, on Sunday (15).

None of the two sides would feature in next Thursday’s final of the tourney to be held between Basnahira North and Wayamba at R. Premadasa.

Ruhuna 450 and (o/n 5-1) 177 all out in 51.3 overs (Anil Rideegammanagedera 46, Dilhara Lokuhettige 38; Chinthaka Perera 4-49, Malinga Bandara 2-9)

Bas. South 383 and 245 for 6 wkts in 41.2 overs (Charith Sylvester 61, Chamara Silva 41, Hasantha Fernando 39, Lahiru Thirimanne 66; Sachitra Senanayake 4-70)

High scoring affair ends in draw

A mammoth 1160 runs were scored during four days of cricket as a high scoring encounter between Wayamba and Kandurata ended in a draw at Dambulla, also on Sunday.

Scores:

Wayamba 394 and 364 for 7 wkts in 64.4 overs (Dhanuka Hunukumbura 73, Jehan Mubarak 44, Sameera de Zoysa 53, Jeewantha Kulatunga 102 (in 91 balls, 14x4, 2x6), Shalika Karunanayake 41; Chaminda Vidanapathirana 2-73)

Kandurata (o/n 388-7) 402 all out in 135.3 overs (Kanchana Gunawardene 121, Nadeera Nawela 148 n.o., Jeewan Mendis 73; Tissara Perera 3-59).
