Protest against Police inaction
Health workers strike

All employees of hospitals in the North Central Province staged a one-day token strike from 8.00 am yesterday (17) in protest against Police inaction in apprehending the suspects involved in the assault on Medical Superintendent of the North Central Province Dr. Wijesiri Attapattu six weeks ago.

The strike is expected to be called off by 8 a.m. today.

Staff of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, Polonnaruwa General Hospital, Polonnaruwa Base Hospital, all rural and district hospitals in the province and all health sector offices participated in the strike.

Emergency services were maintained

According to trade union sources, Police have been compelled by some interested parties to stall investigations into the attack on Dr. Attapattu.
