

Shameera achieves double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets
St. Joseph’s College captain Shameera Weerasinghe achieved his grand double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets for the season as he top scored with a century and picked up two wickets for his side to restrict Bandaranaike College, Gampaha to 68 runs after posting 249 on the first day of their Inter School Under-19 match which commenced at Darley Road yesterday.
Shameera with 57 runs and two wickets short of the rare feat, scored his fifth century of the season to go pass 1000 runs and picked up two wickets to reach his 100 wickets.
Shameera achieved the double of a century and a match bag of ten wickets twice this season. He had match bags of ten wickets on four occasions and five wicket hauls on ten occasions this season.
Shameera achieved his mark in the 16th match of the season.
A consistent performer, Shameera became the first Josephian to take 100 wickets for his school. A school official said that the previous best for a season was 80 wickets by Anuk de S. Wijeratne in the 1999/2000 season.
