International Women’s Day Commemoration – 2009

The Central Province Women’s Chamber of Small Industries & Commerce (CPWCIC) has been commemorating the International Women’s Day which falls on 8th March every year. As a Chamber working exclusively with women entrepreneurs, this event has been one of the main items in our annual calendar. In the past, the chamber has collaborated with the Ministry of Industries and Women’s Affairs and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of Sri Lanka in organizing this event. This year the National Peace Council and the Business for Peace Alliance have come forward to assist the CPWCIC in sponsoring this programme.

The Chamber is planning a grand show this year too and with the participation of over 500 women.

The main objective of this event this year is to bring women from all ethnic groups together to build harmony between all groups, to share each others experience by their active participation and to work together as a nation. We have sent out invitations to all organizations that are working towards the development and safeguarding rights of women.

We have also invited the Sinhala, Hindu, Muslim and Malay Women’s organizations to take part in the event. The programme will have cultural events performed by Sinhala, Hindu, Muslim, Malay and Burger communities. The theme for this year’s event is "Role of Women in integration and harmony between all ethnic groups for a better Sri Lanka".
