Timely intervention by an army medical officer deployed at Puthukudirippu on Thursday (19) at the risk of his life saved the life of an infant wounded in LTTE fire. The officer swiftly moved the infant to a nearby army medical facility. Army headquarters said that the baby had been hit while he was being taken by his mother to the army-held area. They were among 525 civilians who surrendered to the army by Thursday afternoon.
