Visakha Vidyalaya Principal
SC makes order on appointment of petitioner

The Supreme Court yesterday ordered the Ministry of Education to appoint Mrs. H. J. M. S. S. K. Aviruppola as the Principal of Visakha Vidyalaya, Bambalapitiya.

She had petitioned the SC that though she was the most suitable candidate who faced the interview to seek this appointment, but another person had been appointed. She said that appointment was unfair, and requested the Court to cancel that and to declare the petitioner as the duly appointed principal of that school.

Among the respondents are, K. K. Mohammed Thambi, Additional Secretary Ministry of Education and the Public Services Commission.

Mrs. Aviruppola holds a Master’s Degree in Education, from the University of Melbourne Australia.

J. C. Weliamuna appeared with G. P. V. Chandrakanthi Pathirana, for the petitioner.

The Bench comprised the Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva, Justice P. A. Ratnayake and Justice K. Sripavan.
