Agricultural Minister Hemakumara Nanayakkara was appointed as SLFP organizer for the Habaraduwa electorate by President Mahinda Rajapaksa

Nanayakkara first entered Parliament in 1989 on the SLFP ticket representing the Galle district.He earlier served as chief SLFP

organizer for the Galle district. In 1997 he joined the UNP and served as the leader of the opposition of the Galle Municipality. Later he contested on the UNP ticket and entered Parliament and served as Minister of Agriculture

He entered Parliament again in 2004 on the UNP ticket but later crossed over to the UPFA Government and was appointed Minister of Agriculture.
