Police is to conduct a special two-day census beginning
today to register the people who have come to the Western Province from
the North and East Provinces during the last five years.
According to police spokesman Senior Superintendant of
Police Ranjith Gunasekara, it will be held at every police station in the
Western Province.
The Police Department has organized the census as a safety
measure to keep the information updated on the people who had come to
Colombo in the last five years. The spokesman said that details gathered
from the previous census need to be clarified through the second census.
The police have requested those who are resettled in the
South to reregister at the nearest police station in the Western Province.
All police stations of the Western Province will conduct
the registering process from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., SSP Gunasekara said.
