I read with interest Mr. R. A. Ratwatte’s letter in today’s [17/3] The Island and his mean-spirited criticism of the Dalada exposition. The sting was in the tail. He clearly desires the ouster of the present Diyawadana Nilame from Sabaragamuwa and his replacement by a scion of aristocratic families from Senkadagala proper. Let me remind him that both the son and grandson of a Christian graced this high office with not a whimper of protest from the Kandyan aristos! So, what’s wrong with Mr. Dela ?
