SC moved against expulsion from SLMC

Member of Parliament of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Amir Ali has challenged in the Supreme Court his purported expulsion from the SLMC, communicated to him by letter dated February 24, 2009.

He had said that he had been removed for not correcting a news item in a Tamil newspaper which had said that the petitioner had occupied the seat reserved for the Chairman of the SLMC, at a public function.

"The petition said this decision was mala fide, and that the party high command had not accepted his explanation. He had requested the Court to declare the decision dated February 24, 2009, null and void.

The petition said that a removal from the party could make him lose his seat in Parliament.
